Review – In the Heart of the Sea

Ron Howard has to be one of the most talented, regularly frustrating directors around. Plenty of quality filmmakers have had a dud here or there, but for Howard his oeuvre seems to have as many quality pictures as he has outright misses.

In the Heart of the Sea sadly fits in the latter, a dull, rather lifeless reworking of Melville’s Moby Dick that comes from the titular book which in itself documented the story that inspired the whale tale. A shame, since his 2013 racer Rush found Howard nailing that balance of mainstream without being dumb. Oh well. Full details on this new bummer is available here.
