The big fall movies just keep coming. This weekend brings a pair by two Oscar winning directors. The former is Bridge of Spies from the – almost – always reliably excellent Steven Spielberg. It finds him re-teaming with Tom Hanks to tell a Cold War tale of law, compromise and how we treat prisoners of war. My review for that one is available here.
The second biggie to hit is Steve Jobs, the not-so-reliable man behind such classics as Trainspotting and 28 Days Later and such mediocrities as Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours. I’ll admit, I figured Boyle had tipped past the point of sentimentality and visual fiddling as to become a director worth dismissing. Well, his work here with screenwriter Aaron Sorkin provides him ample proof to show he’s still got it, even if he still Boyles all over a few moments. My full thoughts for this can be found here.
